KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued an apology to residents for the prolonged construction delays on University Road, committing to restore mixed traffic lanes within three months. According to Chief Minister Sindh, Shah made these remarks during a media briefing while visiting the BRT Red Line Project, acknowledging the challenges faced by commuters and reaffirming the government’s commitment to expedite the project.
Shah announced plans to reissue the tender for the BRT Red Line Lot-II’s main corridor, following discussions with the Director General of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), who assured the resumption of construction activities within the next few days. The Chief Minister emphasized that the mixed traffic lanes, covering approximately 12 kilometers, would be completed within the promised timeframe.
Acknowledging the high expectations of Karachi’s residents, Shah took responsibility for the project’s delays, noting that the initial contract for Lot-II was awarded four years ago but had not met quality standards. He assured that efforts would be intensified, with construction continuing even during the Eid holidays, to meet the completion deadline.
During his visit to Lot-II, Shah assessed the progress and confirmed the ongoing resumption of work. He stated that construction would accelerate in the coming days, with continuous day and night shifts, to ensure timely completion of the project.
