Islamabad: In an effort to enhance democratic values and youth engagement, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has introduced a six-week Summer Internship Programme at the Senate of Pakistan. Aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of parliamentary democracy, the program involves students from top universities across the nation.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the initiative includes students from institutions such as the National Defence University, National University of Modern Languages, International Islamic University Islamabad, FAST-NUCES, Quaid-i-Azam University, Bahria University, and the National University of Sciences and Technology. These participants will gain exposure to the workings of the Senate of Pakistan and the Senate Secretariat, observing parliamentary proceedings and legislative activities.
The internship, designed to offer both academic and practical learning, is structured to help students understand the legislative process, parliamentary oversight, and policy formulation. As part of the program, a one-week orientation was conducted by the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services from June 22 to June 29, 2026.
During their visit to Parliament House, the 62 interns were welcomed by Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider and senior officers. They were encouraged to engage deeply with their tasks to learn about the Senate’s functioning and policy-making processes. Detailed briefings were provided by senior Senate officers.
Chairman Senate Gilani emphasized the importance of empowering young individuals through direct engagement with democratic institutions to nurture responsible citizenship and develop future leaders. The program underscores his commitment to legislative awareness, democratic values, and meaningful youth participation in Pakistan’s parliamentary system.
The Senate Secretariat continues to focus on creating opportunities that connect the youth with national institutions, aiming to encourage civic engagement and strengthen public confidence in democratic governance. Participants in the program expressed appreciation for the initiative and confidence in the learning outcomes of their internship.
