Karachi, 10 Oct 2023:In a spate of abrupt inspections across a variety of establishments in Malir District, Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (rtd) Maqbool Baqar instituted a series of suspensions and initiated inquiries following discernible inefficiencies and neglect in a 50-bedded hospital, secondary school, police station, and a veterinary hospital. A critical stance was notably adopted regarding evident derelictions of duty and apathy toward the maintenance of institutional standards, as disclosed in a press release by Abdul Rasheed Channa, Media Consultant to CM Sindh.
A particularly alarming situation was encountered at the 2-A Corridor 50-bed Hospital in Landhi, despite being rich in resources and staffed with specialized doctors, the institution was paralyzed by a non-functional operation theatre, severe shortages in medication, lack of paramedical staff and operational inefficiency, to which Medical Superintendent Dr Abdullah Brohi confessed having not reported to the Health Department. In light of these findings, an inquiry was ordered into various aspects of the hospital’s management and operations.
Subsequent to inspecting a dispensary managed by PPHI, Justice Baqar commanded the Minister of Health Dr Saad Niaz to instigate improvements due to shortages in medicines and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions. Meanwhile, a visit to Sukhan Police Station revealed operational incapacities, such as a defunct wireless system and improperly managed weaponry. Due to these and additional irregularities, the SHO and headmuhrer were suspended with an inquiry into the police station’s overall performance to follow.
In the educational sector, a visit to the Govt Boys Secondary School, Bin Qasim, laid bare a deplorable state of affairs regarding student attendance, institutional cleanliness, and administrative oversight. Headmaster Shaukat Umrani was suspended in response to the conspicuous mismanagement.
Lastly, a visit to the Veterinary Hospital, Landhi, Cattle Colony, unveiled a lamentable condition with lack of medicines and poor maintenance of facilities designed to house ailing animals. A thorough inquiry into the circumstances prevailing in the hospital was ordered.
