Brussels Conference Calls for Release of Yasin Malik and Kashmiri Hurriyat Leaders

Brussels, A conference held in Brussels, the heart of the European Union, has brought international attention to the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with speakers demanding the immediate release of Muhammad Yasin Malik and other Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders facing incarceration.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event titled ‘Human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir with focus on saving Yasin Malik’s life” was organized by the European Zone of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). The conference attracted a wide array of participants, including leaders from the Socialist and Humanist Parties, members of the Kashmir Community, and journalists, highlighting the broad concern for the situation in Kashmir.

Speakers at the conference expressed grave concerns over the increasing human rights violations in Kashmir, particularly focusing on the illegal detention of JKLF chief Yasin Malik for the past five years. They criticized the Modi government’s attempts to potentially escalate Malik’s life sentence to a death penalty, interpreting these actions as indicative of the Indian government’s broader intentions towards Kashmiri activists.

The conference saw the launch of a signature campaign across Europe calling for Malik’s release, underscoring the international dimension of the advocacy efforts. In its conclusion, the assembly adopted a four-point resolution urging the United Nations, European Union, and human rights organizations to voice their demand for the release of Yasin Malik and other Kashmiri political prisoners. The resolution also called for an end to human rights abuses in IIOJK, the withdrawal of Indian troops, and the recognition of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

Notable attendees included JKLF European Zone President Mushtaq Pasha, alongside other political and social personalities, reinforcing the event’s significance in mobilizing support and awareness regarding Kashmir’s political and human rights issues on an international level.
