Quetta: Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has called for stringent measures against illegal trawling activities that are harming Balochistan’s coastal resources, emphasizing the need for immediate and non-discriminatory action to preserve the province’s natural assets for future generations.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Chief Minister Bugti voiced his concerns during a high-level meeting focused on preparations for the national meeting of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee. The meeting was attended by Secretary IPC Meena Baloch, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and other key officials, including the Secretary Fisheries, Javed Anwar Shahwani.
Bugti stated that the exploitation of coastal resources is a betrayal of a national trust, expressing disappointment over the involvement of local entities in such activities. He criticized the performance of various institutions established to combat illegal trawling, noting that despite the fisheries sector’s growth over the past decade, effective mechanisms to prevent illegal activities were lacking, allowing criminal elements to deplete the province’s marine resources.
The Chief Minister announced plans to supervise personally the enforcement actions against those involved in illegal trawling. He also directed the implementation of a modern monitoring system to enhance oversight and ensure that no concessions are made to offenders, reinforcing his commitment to rectify the oversight failures and secure the coastal and marine assets of Balochistan.
