Azmi Reaffirms Malaysia’s Support for Kashmir Cause


Islamabad: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) welcomed a delegation from the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM), led by President Mohd Azmi Bin Abd Hamid. The gathering focused on strategies to address India’s ongoing occupation and aggression in Kashmir, as well as the denial of Kashmiris’ self-determination rights outlined in UN resolutions.



According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the roundtable attracted academics, researchers, diplomats, human rights advocates, and youth mobilizers. Dr. Khurram Abbas, Director of the India Study Centre at ISSI, introduced the visiting delegation, setting the stage for discussions on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.



Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, ISSI’s Director General, commended MAPIM’s efforts under Mr. Azmi’s leadership, particularly in advocating for the Muslim Ummah’s causes such as Palestine and Kashmir. He noted that the delegation’s visit offered a platform to exchange insights on the evolving global landscape concerning the Kashmir dispute.



Ambassador Mahmood emphasized examining the Kashmir conflict through legal, human rights, and peace and security lenses. Mr. Azmi highlighted MAPIM’s visit as part of broader efforts to advocate for Kashmir, pointing out the historical context of unresolved disputes left by colonial powers.



Mr. Azmi reiterated Malaysia’s support for the Kashmir cause, advocating for people-centric approaches to maintain international focus on the issue. He called for action-oriented research and innovative solutions to create a conducive environment for resolving the Kashmir dispute.



The discussions underscored the importance of community-driven approaches and active diplomacy in addressing the Kashmir issue. Participants emphasized countering India’s narrative by presenting the legal and historical facts to the global community.
