APHC Raises Alarm Over Health of Detainees in Indian Jails

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has voiced serious concern regarding the health and well-being of detained Hurriyat leaders and activists held in various prisons across India and in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, an APHC spokesperson in Srinagar revealed that the health of detainees is rapidly deteriorating, with many suffering from serious illnesses and being treated with neglect by jail authorities, leading to their significant weight loss. The statement emphasized the severe conditions under which the detainees are held, including confinement in dark cells and subjection to physical torture.

The spokesperson also highlighted the case of Zia Mustafa, warning of severe repercussions should any Hurriyat leader meet a similar fate in custody. An urgent plea was made for the immediate release of all Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists deemed to be held illegally.

Tribute was paid to the resilience of numerous political prisoners, including APHC chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, and other key figures who, according to the APHC, are being held on trumped-up charges. These individuals’ commitment to their cause, despite harsh treatment and imprisonment, was acknowledged with high regard.

The APHC’s statement included a call to action for the United Nations Human Rights Council and global human rights organizations, urging them to inspect the conditions within Indian and IIOJK jails firsthand. Furthermore, the statement implored the international community to facilitate a resolution to the Kashmir conflict that aligns with the UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.
