Lahore: Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Vice Chancellors from several universities, focusing on the transformative role of higher education in national development. The discussions centered on academic excellence and institutional growth, with an emphasis on preparing students for global challenges.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting included Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali from the University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Arshad Ali from Multan University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. Mr. Gilani highlighted the need for universities to advance beyond traditional learning, stressing the importance of research, critical thinking, and skills development.
The Vice Chancellors addressed issues such as curriculum modernization, faculty development, research funding, and industry-academia partnerships. They advocated for increased collaboration among universities and enhanced connections with public and private sectors to improve employability and innovation.
Mr. Gilani also emphasized aligning academic programs with market needs and national priorities, urging universities to tackle socio-economic challenges, promote entrepreneurship, and instill values of tolerance and civic responsibility. He reiterated the government’s support for higher education institutions in achieving excellence and international competitiveness.
