Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met with Chen Xiaojiang, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, to discuss enhancing cooperation in several sectors including agriculture, irrigation, and livestock.

According to Chief Minister of Punjab, the meeting included notable attendees such as CPC Xinjiang Uygur Deputy Secretary He Zhongyu, Head of the Publicity Department Wang Jinzhen, Executive Vice Governor of Xinjiang Uygur Zhang Yingchen, and Provincial Deputy Secretary-General of the CPC Li Qiyong. The discussions focused on adopting advanced technologies such as aerial vehicles, modern water levelling techniques, and digital crop monitoring systems to bolster agricultural productivity.

Both parties agreed to utilize tested Chinese seeds to improve agricultural yield and emphasized the importance of exchanges between delegations from Punjab and China to strengthen people-to-people contacts. The dialogue also touched upon development, regional stability, and cooperation aligned with China’s international strategy.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted Punjab’s role as Pakistan’s largest province in agricultural production, contributing significantly to national needs for key crops. She expressed Punjab’s interest in learning from Xinjiang’s experience in corporate farming and expanding cooperation in agriculture, industry, minerals, and new technologies.
