US and Iran Sign Historic Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, announced the electronic signing of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ between the United States and Iran, marking a significant step toward resolving longstanding conflicts between the two nations. The agreement, endorsed by Prime Minister Sharif as a mediator, involves immediate actions such as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the lifting of the naval blockade by the United States.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Memorandum was signed electronically by the Presidents of both countries, reflecting their commitment to a diplomatic resolution. The agreement is set to take effect immediately. In a post on X, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the significance of the signing, emphasizing the highest level of governmental engagement involved in this diplomatic initiative.

Pakistan, supported by co-mediator Qatar, is set to host an official ceremony in Switzerland to commemorate the event and begin technical talks. Prime Minister Sharif extended congratulations to the leaders of the United States and Iran, acknowledging their efforts in reaching this agreement. He also recognized Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his critical role in facilitating this diplomatic breakthrough.
