UNHCR Representative and Punjab Chief Minister Discuss Evacuation of Illegally Staying Foreigners

Lahore, 03 Dec 2023: Philippa Kondler, the representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), met with Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss the evacuation of foreigners residing illegally in the province. The meeting focused on support, coordination, and cooperation in this process.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office addressed the policy adopted by the Punjab government against foreigners staying illegally. Chief Minister Naqvi stated that those legally residing have been repatriated, emphasizing the transparency and diligence of the process to ensure no illegal aliens remain in the province. He assured continued support from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in this initiative.

The UNHCR lauded the government’s efforts to document and regulate the evacuation of illegally staying foreigners. The meeting was also attended by UNHCR Liaison Officer Farman Khalji, Commissioner Afghan Refugees Punjab Rana Muhammad Arshad, Director Afghan Refugees Muhammad Usman Ghani, and other related officials. The collaboration signifies a joint effort to manage the issue of illegal residency in a structured and humane manner.
