UN Peacekeeping Discussions Set to Begin in Islamabad

Islamabad: Pakistan, in collaboration with the Republic of Korea, will host the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting in Islamabad starting Tuesday. This two-day event aims to lay the groundwork for the upcoming UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting scheduled for next month in Berlin, Germany.

The Islamabad meeting will comprise a series of panel discussions addressing the future of peacekeeping. Topics will include challenges faced by peacekeeping operations, the integration of technology to enhance safety and effectiveness, and the involvement of regional and cross-regional organizations in supporting UN peace initiatives. Discussions will also focus on improving the performance of peacekeepers and fostering an integrated approach to achieving sustainable peace.

The event is an opportunity for Pakistan to underscore its longstanding commitment to United Nations peacekeeping efforts. As a leading troop-contributing country, Pakistan has deployed 235,000 peacekeepers across 48 UN missions. Tragically, 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have lost their lives in the service of international peace and security.
