Islamabad: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with H.E. Ms. Jane Marriott, the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, to address the regional crisis affecting global energy markets and to explore strengthening cooperation in Pakistan’s energy and mineral sectors. The meeting underscored mutual interests in maintaining energy security and fostering bilateral ties.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions focused on the impact of the regional situation on petroleum supply chains, price volatility, and energy security. Ms. Marriott commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to alleviate tensions and promote global peace, highlighting its effective engagement with key stakeholders like the United States and Iran.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner also praised Pakistan’s handling of its petroleum supply chain, noting the government’s success in ensuring uninterrupted availability of petroleum products despite international uncertainty. Federal Minister Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
Minister Malik emphasized the government’s focus on maintaining supply continuity and avoiding populist measures that could undermine economic achievements. He acknowledged the support from countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Oman in facilitating petroleum supplies. He also recalled Qatar’s past cooperation in supplying LNG at favorable rates and renegotiating contractual terms.
The discussions also touched on Pakistan’s domestic energy management, with the Minister highlighting efforts to protect vulnerable segments of society through targeted subsidies. The UK High Commissioner emphasized the significance of long-term cooperation in the energy sector, noting the technical collaboration between the British Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Pakistan.
Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral engagement through technical cooperation and institutional partnerships, focusing on energy security, investment facilitation, and sustainable development in Pakistan’s energy and mineral sectors.
