Islamabad: The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Mr. Yusuf Sharifzoda, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, to discuss mutual cooperation in climate change and wildlife protection. The meeting emphasized the need for collaboration on environmental issues and regional connectivity, with a focus on the upcoming international water conference in Tajikistan.
According to Press Information Department, the discussion highlighted the geographical and environmental similarities between Tajikistan and Pakistan, both of which have experienced significant glacial melt impacting nearly 1,000 glaciers each. The Ambassador stressed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing these environmental challenges.
The conservation of shared wildlife species, such as markhor and snow leopards, was also a focal point. Mr. Sharifzoda emphasized the value of establishing formal agreements for wildlife protection, while Dr. Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing collaboration on climate resilience and sustainable development.
The talks included proposals for a regional corridor to boost not only environmental cooperation but also trade and connectivity. Both parties recognized the historical and cultural ties between their nations, expressing a shared interest in strengthening bilateral relations.
