Islamabad: In a critical move addressing the agricultural sector’s concerns, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the formation of a cabinet committee to resolve issues related to the procurement and sale of wheat nationwide. This decision was made during a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad, where the Prime Minister reiterated his vision of transforming Pakistan into an economic power, drawing parallels to the country’s journey to becoming a nuclear state.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif, during his address to the Federal Cabinet, paid tribute to the individuals and institutions responsible for making Pakistan a nuclear power. He acknowledged the contributions of scientists, politicians, and various governments in achieving nuclear deterrence, which he emphasized is intended solely for defensive purposes. The Prime Minister specifically credited Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program and former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif for carrying it to completion.
The meeting also reflected on the significance of May 28, the date marking Pakistan’s emergence as a nuclear power, and the recent celebration of Marka-e-Haq’s first anniversary on May 10. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the unity and courage of the armed forces in their efforts against terrorism and acknowledged the sacrifices made in this ongoing fight.
In addition to wheat-related issues, the Federal Cabinet directed the development of an accountability mechanism for the Ministry of Religious Affairs and private Hajj operators. This aims to protect pilgrims’ rights, with the cabinet approving recommendations for the Hajj Policy 2027-2030.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved a project for low-cost housing development in Farash Town, Islamabad, to be managed by the Capital Development Authority, targeting residents of Islamabad’s Katchi Abadis. These decisions underscore the government’s commitment to addressing economic and social challenges amidst ongoing national efforts.
