ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to elevate Pakistan to the status of an economic powerhouse with the same dedication and commitment that characterized the nation’s journey to becoming a nuclear power.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister made these remarks during a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad. He paid tribute to the scientists, politicians, and institutions that contributed to making Pakistan’s defense capabilities robust and establishing the country as a nuclear power. Sharif emphasized that the nuclear deterrence is solely for defense purposes.
Acknowledging the contributions of past governments, Prime Minister Sharif credited Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program and former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif for conducting the nuclear tests. He noted that May 28 marks an important date in history when Pakistan emerged as a nuclear power.
Sharif also highlighted the celebration of the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq on May 10, attributing this success to national unity and the courage of the armed forces. He praised the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism and outlined the government’s efforts to eradicate the threat.
The Prime Minister recognized the teamwork of cabinet members in improving the country’s economy over the past two years despite challenges. The Federal Cabinet also offered prayers for those who were martyred in the war against terrorism.
