Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Emphasizes Parliament’s Role in Democratic Stability

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, underscored the critical role of Parliament as a cornerstone of democratic states and as the authentic voice of the people’s aspirations. He highlighted the importance of parliamentary supremacy in ensuring democratic stability, constitutional supremacy, and public confidence during his address on the occasion of the International Day of Parliamentarism. The Speaker asserted that an effective and transparent Parliament is essential for addressing public issues and driving national development.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sadiq emphasized the proactive role of the National Assembly in upholding democratic values, promoting transparent legislation, and ensuring effective parliamentary oversight. He noted that legislation should focus on building a comprehensive legal framework that advances public welfare, social justice, economic prosperity, and national cohesion. Efforts are being made to strengthen parliamentary committees, harness modern technology, and enhance institutional capacity to improve legislative quality.

Sadiq also stressed that Parliament’s responsibilities extend beyond lawmaking to include holding the Executive accountable and ensuring elected representatives advocate for their constituencies. He called on political stakeholders to transcend partisan differences to strengthen democracy and Parliament, emphasizing cooperation and constructive dialogue.

As an active member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the National Assembly is committed to promoting democracy, human rights, and sustainable development globally. The Speaker reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with international parliamentary forums to advance global peace and cooperation. Highlighting parliamentary diplomacy’s role in fostering regional and global stability, Sadiq noted that inter-parliamentary engagement enhances trust, understanding, and collaborative legislation among nations.
