Sindh to Amend Livestock and Animal Health Legislation

Karachi: The Sindh Livestock Department, under the guidance of Advisor to CM Sindh on Livestock, Fisheries, and Human Settlement Syed Najmi Alam, is set to amend the Sindh Animal Compound Feed Act and the Sindh Animal Diseases Control Act. The amendments aim to enhance the department’s development and address various challenges in animal health and export sectors.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting with the Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Program (GRASP) delegation from the International Trade Center United Nations Geneva included discussions on significant improvements in animal health management and disease elimination. The delegation, led by Espon Oliveira Gomes and including key figures like Robert Skidmore and Rizwan Tariq, focused on collaborative efforts to promote livestock health and increase exports of milk and meat. Syed Najmi Alam emphasized ongoing efforts to eradicate foot and mouth disease in Sindh and plans to develop disease testing laboratories, solarize livestock buildings, and enhance support for cattle owners in the arid Thar region.

The advisor also highlighted initiatives to protect rare animal species and ensure the safety of animal feed. The meeting outlined the need for resolving issues related to veterinary services and mentioned contact with the federal government to pass resolutions for livestock management post the 18th amendment, which tasks provincial governments with such responsibilities.
