Sindh Processes Nearly 4,000 Vehicles Under Fuel Subsidy Scheme, Disburses Rs146.77 Million

KARACHI: In a recent meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that 3,976 vehicles have been processed under the fuel subsidy scheme, resulting in the disbursement of Rs146.77 million. However, over 5,000 claims are under review due to errors such as CNIC mismatches and missing IBAN details. The chief minister urged for data correction and stronger enforcement to ensure a transparent and timely disbursement process.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the subsidy program, which is jointly financed by federal and provincial governments, aims to assist goods transporters and public service vehicles in light of rising fuel prices. Concerns were raised about delays and returned cases, prompting the chief minister to emphasize the need for prompt resolution of data issues to ensure eligible transporters receive relief without further delays.

The Transport Department is undertaking digital reforms, including the automation of various systems and integration with multiple agencies to enhance transparency and regulation in the transport sector. Murad Ali Shah stressed the importance of using technology to eliminate inefficiencies and improve regulatory compliance. He also called for strict enforcement of route permit and fitness certification requirements to prevent non-compliant vehicles from operating. The chief minister highlighted the necessity of coordination between Transport, Excise, and law enforcement agencies for effective subsidy implementation and regulatory measures.

Murad Ali Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to stabilizing the transport sector and mitigating the impact of rising fuel costs on the public, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive relief in a fair and timely manner.
