Sindh Government Announces Rs7 Billion Relief Package for Gul Plaza Tragedy Victims


KARACHI: The Sindh government has unveiled a Rs7 billion financial package aimed at assisting the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy, with Rs5.657 billion already secured and Rs511.7 million distributed among 200 verified victims, reaffirming its commitment to their rehabilitation.



According to Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, the compensation cheques were distributed during a ceremony at the CM House. The initiative reflects the government’s dedication to offering immediate and long-term relief to the affected families and businesses. The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has been integral in assessing and verifying claims, which has facilitated the distribution process. The government has approved a financial package, with compensation processed for 1,209 shops based on KCCI evaluations. The chief minister emphasized the government’s commitment to completing pending payments and supporting affected traders. Additionally, a committee has been established to implement recommendations from a Judicial Commission report on the tragedy. The government is also working on infrastructure projects in Karachi to prevent future incidents.
