KARACHI: In a strategic move to bolster foreign investments, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah extended an invitation to leading Chinese companies to invest in the province’s burgeoning sectors, including digital economy, logistics, and renewable energy. This development comes as Karachi positions itself as a regional trade and technology hub with substantial opportunities for international investors.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the invitation was extended during a meeting with a high-powered 32-member delegation from IBI (Beijing United Information Technology Co., Ltd.) and other Chinese business leaders. The delegation, led by IBI President and CEO Qian Xiao Jun, included executives from diverse sectors such as digital trade, logistics, chemicals, textiles, and industrial technology. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, along with provincial ministers and other officials, were present at the meeting.
During the discussions, Chief Minister Shah emphasized the unmatched connectivity and market access that Karachi offers, inviting Chinese investment in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and smart logistics systems. He assured full government facilitation, including policy support and ease-of-business measures, to enable a seamless investment process.
IBI officials shared their company’s extensive experience in industrial internet and digital supply-chain enterprises, expressing keen interest in establishing digital trade platforms and export facilitation centers in Karachi. Representatives from various sectors discussed potential collaborations and investments, focusing on technology transfer and industrial modernization.
The Sindh government has committed to working closely with the Chinese delegation through a newly formed working group, aiming for long-term economic cooperation under the broader Pakistan-China strategic relations framework.
