Sindh and IFC Forge Partnership to Boost Digital Infrastructure and Renewable Energy

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and International Finance Corporation Division Director for Pakistan, Simon Andrews, have agreed to explore joint investments in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and human capital development across the province. This collaboration aims to enhance economic growth and social development in Sindh.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the agreement was reached during a meeting at CM House, which included key provincial officials and the IFC delegation. The discussions emphasized attracting investments in strategic sectors, with a particular focus on establishing an international data center and expanding renewable energy for the private sector. Furthermore, the talks highlighted the importance of strengthening agriculture value chains and improving farmers’ livelihoods through mechanization.

The meeting also covered human capital development, focusing on healthcare, nutrition, and skills development. The Chief Minister discussed plans to boost the number of trained nurses annually to address workforce shortages in the healthcare sector. Both parties agreed to work on developing a comprehensive model for nursing education.

Climate resilience was another key agenda, with discussions on integrating climate risk considerations into Public-Private Partnership projects. The IFC Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Team proposed technical assistance to incorporate climate risk assessment into project planning. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue consultations on climate risk management and adaptation measures in infrastructure projects.
