Karachi: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karamullah Waqasi, has emphasized the party’s commitment to public service politics. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance Karachi’s infrastructure, environment, and recreational facilities to improve residents’ quality of life.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the newly constructed Hammad Awan Shaheed Park in Shireen Jinnah Colony, Saddar Town, reflects KMC’s dedication to creating clean and safe public spaces. Once a site plagued by waste and illegal activities, it now offers landscaped areas, walking tracks, and amenities for family-friendly recreation. Waqasi noted the park’s successful reception and plans to replicate similar projects across Karachi.
He outlined several completed initiatives in Shireen Jinnah Colony, including a public park, dispensary, mortuary, and water filtration plant. Infrastructure projects are also in progress citywide, with the Munawar Chowrangi Underpass set to open soon, easing traffic congestion. Other developments include a Rs. 2 billion road project in Pehlwan Goth and a sports complex in Baldia Town.
Waqasi also highlighted preparations for the monsoon season with the cleaning of storm-water drains. The KMC plans to develop more mangrove parks and green spaces, requiring legal approvals for any development within its jurisdiction. Approximately 60 additional projects are in planning and implementation stages.
Concluding, Waqasi reiterated the PPP’s dedication to public welfare, promising continued efforts to transform Karachi into a modern and environmentally conscious city.
