Senate Sub-Committee Criticizes Absence of Key Officials During Review of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal

Islamabad: The Senate Sub-Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety convened to scrutinize the administrative and policy matters of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), expressing dissatisfaction over the absence of crucial officials. The meeting, chaired by Senator Rubina Qaimkhani and attended by Senator Jan Muhammad and Senator Dost Ali Jeesar, highlighted concerns about governance, transparency, and delays impacting social safety programs.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee noted the absence of the concerned Minister and Secretary, arguing that their non-appearance obstructs effective oversight of essential social programs. The discussion included an update on an ongoing investigation into “fake degree cases,” with formal inquiries initiated against three officers. Committee members emphasized the necessity of upholding departmental integrity through rigorous verification processes.

The sub-committee also expressed apprehensions about “unnecessary delays” in procurement and aid distribution, noting that inquiries related to the provision of wheelchairs and sewing machines have been submitted for final approval. The committee stressed that such delays adversely affect the welfare of the underprivileged. In response to these issues, a Privilege Motion against the concerned Minister and Managing Director was proposed, with the chair directing the submission of a detailed report and postponing the remaining agenda for a thorough review in the next meeting.
