ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, convened to address the absorption and payment of salaries to employees of the dissolved Pak PWD, alongside key issues concerning public infrastructure, housing schemes, and encroachments.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting was attended by several senators, including Bilal Ahmed Khan, Hidayat Ullah Khan, Khalida Ateeb, Husna Bano, and Naseema Ehsan. The committee reaffirmed its dedication to resolving outstanding issues regarding the absorption and salary payments of Pak PWD employees. Of the 3,227 employees, 3,001 have been absorbed into various departments with salaries, with plans to accommodate the remainder soon.
The Ministry of Planning committed to absorbing 17 employees within 10 days, while the Ministry of Interior aimed to adjust 7 employees shortly. The Ministry of Religious Affairs, however, expressed concerns over limited vacancies, resulting in the committee’s directive to comply with Cabinet decisions and report back in 10 days.
The committee also addressed issues faced by employees absorbed in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and sought a detailed report by the next meeting. Additionally, compliance notices were recommended for five employees allocated to Border Health Services who have yet to join.
Infrastructure discussions included the status of lifts at Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, where funding has been allocated for replacements. The committee was updated on the Model Jail in Islamabad, expected to be operational by the end of the financial year, with a site visit planned.
Concerning Constantia Lodge at Kashmir Point, Murree, legal proceedings were urged to expedite securing encroached land. The Sky Gardens Housing Scheme awaits an adjudication decision reserved since April 2026, with authorities directed to follow up vigilantly.
Regarding the Green Enclave-I project of FGEHA, progress was acknowledged, with construction resuming in June 2026 after resolving disputes. Anti-encroachment operations were also reviewed, emphasizing fairness and sensitivity in affected areas.
The meeting concluded with the Chairman commending officials and directing transparency and timely execution across projects.
