Islamabad, Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Human Rights and Women Empowerment, has voiced serious concerns over the treatment of her husband, Yasin Malik, by the Indian government. She fears that the Indian authorities might execute Malik for political gains.
According to Press Information Department, Mullick condemned the Indian government for allegedly framing Malik in a fabricated case involving the murder of four Indian Air Force personnel in Srinagar in 1990. She accused the Narendra Modi-led government of pursuing the case against Malik, a prominent voice for the people of Kashmir, to gain political mileage in the face of potential election losses. Mullick alleged that ordinary people were being coerced into testifying against Malik to justify what she termed as his “judicial murder.”
She further criticized the judicial process, claiming that the courts, in collusion with the authorities, have failed to prove any charges against Malik despite extensive efforts. Malik, incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2017, has been unable to physically appear in court, with proceedings conducted via video link. The SAPM urged for Malik’s legal request for a court appearance to be granted and called on international bodies and human rights organizations to intervene and save her husband’s life, emphasizing the urgency of the situation under the current Indian administration.
