LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a 15-day target to enhance the door-to-door waste collection campaign, as part of the ‘Suthra Punjab’ initiative, during a recent meeting to review its performance.

According to Chief Minister of Punjab, the meeting, chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, resulted in the decision to remove the Managing Directors of Kasur, Faisalabad, and Okara due to complaints of poor sanitation. The affected individuals will not be reassigned to other positions. In addition, warnings are to be issued to other concerned MDs over similar issues.

The meeting also outlined new measures for the program, including the installation of body cameras for tracking Field Monitoring Officers and the establishment of a dedicated monitoring section. The ‘Suthra Punjab’ beat system is to be fully operational, and digital challans will be activated through Safe City cameras as part of the anti-littering campaign.

During the briefing, it was reported that timely payments to workers have been completed in most tehsils, and anti-littering squads have conducted over 77,000 inspections across the province. In Lahore alone, 53,186 inspections have been conducted, resulting in 2,156 digital challans. Additionally, 37,852 bins have been installed throughout Punjab, with 99 percent of 676,551 complaints received being resolved.
