Lahore: The Punjab Bar Council has officially disassociated itself from political propaganda attributed to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emphasizing that recent statements made by some of its members are personal opinions and do not reflect the organization’s collective stance or that of the broader legal community.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Council issued a statement clarifying that a minority of individuals cannot dictate the views of the majority or the institution as a whole, especially within a democratic organization. The Council urged related bodies, including bar councils and associations, to refrain from making statements on matters that are currently sub judice, cautioning that such actions could potentially influence judicial proceedings, threaten institutional independence, or erode public trust.
The statement further underlined that bar platforms should not be exploited for personal, political, or partisan ends. It reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, and respect for constitutional and legal institutions, asserting that it does not endorse any actions or rhetoric that might cause rifts within the legal fraternity.
