UN Secretary-General Guterres Concludes Diplomatic Visit to Pakistan


ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres wrapped up a comprehensive three-day visit to Pakistan, engaging with the country’s leadership on key regional and international issues. His visit, from October 6 to 8, included meetings with top officials and highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to United Nations principles and multilateral diplomacy.



According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guterres commenced his visit by meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to peaceful dispute resolution and multilateralism. The discussions included calls for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu & Kashmir issue and concerns over India’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan’s support for Palestine and its diplomatic efforts for regional peace were also highlighted.



The Secretary-General was honored with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in recognition of his contributions to global peace. He also met with the Prime Minister, discussing various regional and international matters. Further meetings with defense and interior officials showcased Pakistan’s role in UN peacekeeping and international cooperation.



Guterres visited the UN Military Observer Group’s headquarters in Islamabad and was briefed by the National Disaster Management Authority on disaster preparedness. He addressed the Foreign Service Academy, emphasizing multilateralism and the role of the UN, while praising Pakistan’s resilience and solidarity.



The visit underscored the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the United Nations, reinforcing shared commitments to international peace, security, and development.
