Chairman Senate Honors Victims of 2005 Earthquake on 21st Anniversary


Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has paid tribute to the victims of the October 8, 2005 earthquake on the 21st anniversary of the tragedy. He expressed solidarity with the families affected by the disaster, underscoring the importance of national unity and preparedness in facing natural calamities.



According to Senate of Pakistan, in his message, Gilani prayed for the elevation of the ranks of those who lost their lives and sought patience and strength for the bereaved families. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistan Army, rescue agencies, volunteers, and relief workers for their services during the disaster.



Gilani highlighted that the 2005 earthquake experience provided crucial lessons for improving preparedness and response to natural disasters. He noted that while such disasters cannot be prevented, measures like timely early warnings, effective institutional coordination, and robust disaster management can mitigate loss of life and property. Emphasizing national unity and mutual cooperation, Gilani called for a strong sense of collective responsibility in challenging times.
