Lahore, A significant advocacy seminar organized by the Child Protection Bureau and the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) was held in Lahore, focusing on enhancing measures against crimes targeting children in Punjab. The event saw the participation of Sarah Ahmad, Chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau and Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, alongside other dignitaries.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the seminar highlighted the ongoing efforts and achievements of the Child Protection Bureau in combating child exploitation across the province. Chairperson Sarah Ahmad detailed the Bureau’s initiatives, including the rescue of over 45,000 children from vulnerable situations on the streets over the past five years. She emphasized the need for stronger legislative frameworks and broader operational capacities to protect children’s rights comprehensively.
The event also featured speeches by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and SSDO Executive Director Kosar Abbas. Speaker Khan praised the Child Protection Bureau’s role under Ahmad’s leadership in providing excellent care and rehabilitation facilities for children, contributing to their development into constructive societal members. Abbas focused on the critical need for heightened public awareness about child trafficking and the enforcement of the Trafficking in Persons Act 2018, outlining its crucial role in mitigating violence and abuse against child domestic workers.
The seminar was attended by a range of stakeholders including parliamentarians, the Prosecutor General of Punjab, Justice (Retd.) Nasira Iqbal, and representatives from various departments and NGOs, all committed to fortifying child protection efforts in Punjab.
