Srinagar, In Srinagar, a protest demonstration was organized by local traders against the Modi-led Indian government’s policies, which are perceived as anti-people and detrimental to the residents of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The protest, held at Press Enclave in the city, was covered by Kashmir Media Service.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Participants, including trader leaders and Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, expressed their strong opposition to the Indian government’s plan to privatize various public sector entities like electricity and railways. They also criticized the installation of smart meters across Jammu and Kashmir, viewing it as a scheme to overcharge Kashmiri people while benefiting allies of the Indian Prime Minister.
Tarigami highlighted the adverse impact of these policies on the working class and the reversal of labour rights under the current government. He specifically pointed out the risks associated with the privatization of electricity, such as potential monopoly control and the lack of investment in distribution infrastructure by private entities. He also raised concerns about the financial burden placed on consumers by inflated bills from smart meters.
