Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, describing it as a historic moment for the region and the world. The agreement aims to resolve a conflict that began in February, which caused significant suffering in the region and disrupted global energy supplies and economic stability.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari expressed hope that such conflicts would not recur and emphasized the importance of focusing on development and prosperity. He commended Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi for their diplomatic efforts in facilitating the agreement.
The President acknowledged Pakistan’s role in advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolution, as well as the support from nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt, the Russian Federation, and China. He urged all parties to implement the Memorandum fully and work towards a final agreement to ensure lasting peace and regional development. The President reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and prosperity in the region.
