Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has instructed Banking Mohtasib Pakistan to enhance public awareness of its services to aid banking customers in safeguarding themselves from fraudulent activities.
According to Press Information Department, the President issued the directive during a meeting with Banking Mohtasib Pakistan Sirajuddin Aziz at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where Aziz presented the Banking Mohtasib’s Annual Report for 2025. The President highlighted the crucial role of information technology in modern banking and pointed out that a lack of knowledge is leaving customers susceptible to fraud.
President Zardari emphasized the need for the Banking Mohtasib to particularly support women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, low-income communities, and other vulnerable groups in obtaining justice.
During the meeting, it was disclosed that the Banking Mohtasib received 35,130 complaints in 2025, in addition to 13,793 complaints carried over from the previous year. Out of the total 48,923 complaints, 36,280 were resolved with relief totaling Rs. 1,879.766 million provided to banking customers.
Further information revealed that from January 1 to June 30, 2026, 21,392 new complaints were lodged, compared to 16,915 during the same period the previous year. In the first half of 2026, 18,482 complaints were resolved, offering monetary relief of Rs. 762.76 million to customers. Senator Saleem Mandviwalla was also present at the meeting.
