Posters in IIOJK Demand UN Action on Kashmir Resolution

Srinagar, New posters have emerged in Srinagar and other parts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), urging the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with its resolution dated January 5, 1949. The posters highlight ongoing issues regarding the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, these posters, put up by pro-freedom organizations, assert that India is continuing to deny the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination, a right acknowledged in resolutions by the UN Security Council. The posters feature images of several Hurriyat leaders who are currently detained, including Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, and Dr. Hameed Fayaz.

The United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) resolution of January 5, 1949, is central to the posters’ message. This resolution calls for a plebiscite under UN supervision, allowing the Kashmiri people to decide on accession to India or Pakistan. The posters argue that the Indian government, led by Narendra Modi and influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is not only denying basic rights to Kashmiris but also seizing their properties under harsh laws, as part of an agenda to impose Hindutva ideologies in the region.

The posters emphasize that the right to self-determination is a crucial aspect of human dignity, and its denial undermines human freedom, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and human rights covenants. They criticize India for treating Kashmiris as if they have no fundamental rights and call on the United Nations and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities towards the Kashmiri people. The plea is for the UN to act on its resolutions to alleviate the suffering of Kashmiris under Indian forces.

These messages have also been circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook and others, garnering attention and support for the Kashmiri cause.
