New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the complete eradication of polio, as he met with Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s ongoing support in combating polio and enhancing maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, digitization, and financial inclusion in Pakistan. In addition to discussing health initiatives, Shehbaz Sharif briefed Bill Gates on the government’s agricultural reforms, highlighting innovations in biotechnology, climate resilience, research, and capacity building for farmers.

Both parties agreed to seek collaborative opportunities in developing improved seeds, livestock genetics, and emerging agricultural technologies. Bill Gates acknowledged the efforts made by Pakistan under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of eradicating polio to safeguard future generations. He also commended the Prime Minister for his direct involvement with provincial governments in advancing the polio vaccination program.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continue constructive engagement, aiming to bolster partnerships that support sustainable development, technological progress, and improved social sector outcomes for the people of Pakistan.
