PM Sharif Advocates Solar Power to Cut Electricity Costs for Farmers

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the untapped solar energy potential in Pakistan as a strategy to provide low-cost electricity, especially to the agricultural sector. During a federal cabinet meeting, he discussed plans for the solarization of a million tube wells across the country to reduce energy costs.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister revealed that the finance ministry has been directed to devise a business plan for this ambitious project. He also noted the reallocation of fifty billion rupees from the development budget to subsidize electricity for consumers using up to 200 units for three months.

The ongoing project to solarize 28,000 tube wells in Balochistan, which aims to save eighty billion rupees annually, was acknowledged as a significant step towards this initiative. Furthermore, PM Sharif called on his ministers to intensify efforts to boost exports and improve the national shipping fleet to reduce the five billion dollars spent annually on freight. The government’s recent tax measures in the real estate sector, expected to generate 100 billion rupees, were also discussed as part of broader economic reforms.
