ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has decided to dispatch a high-level delegation to the United States to negotiate trade relations and discuss a newly imposed trade tariff. The move comes amid efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and establish a mutually beneficial trade mechanism.
The delegation, as instructed by the prime minister, will consist of prominent business figures and exporters, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing.
A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sharif focused on enhancing Pakistan’s exports and reviewing the U.S.’s new tariff. The meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, several federal ministers, and other senior officials.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the longstanding trade relationship between Pakistan and the U.S. and expressed the government’s desire to further strengthen this partnership.
During the meeting, a report and future strategy from the steering committee and working group regarding the new tariff were reviewed. Various alternative strategies were also discussed.
Officials informed the meeting that the Pakistan Embassy is maintaining constant contact with the U.S. administration.
The prime minister directed the formation of the delegation, ensuring the inclusion of notable business and export personalities, to address these trade issues.
