Planning Minister Discusses Enhancements and Reforms for Pakistan’s Planning Commission


Islamabad, The Planning Commission of Pakistan is set for restructuring to increase its efficiency and effectiveness, following a high-level meeting presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting reviewed current economic reforms, capacity building, and the historical accomplishments of the Planning Commission, including the successful implementation of Vision 2025 and substantial savings achieved through rigorous management of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).



The Minister emphasized the importance of revising pay scales to attract skilled professionals from the market, which is crucial for enhancing the ministry’s capacity for strategic planning. The discussion also covered the impact of the 18th amendment on PSDP financing and the need for clear benchmarks to guide federal spending decisions.



The committee agreed on actionable steps to re-examine and potentially reform the structure of the Planning Commission to better align with modern governance needs and the opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
