Islamabad, The Petroleum Division has issued a statement in response to recent media reports concerning the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) and its Board. The Division has denounced what it describes as a “malicious campaign” against SSGC, its Chairperson, and the Board of Directors.
According to Press Information Department, the statement highlights the achievements of SSGC under the leadership of Dr. Shamshad Akhter, who has been at the helm since 2019. The Petroleum Division lauded the significant milestones achieved by SSGC in various areas, including technological upgrades, operational improvements, and reductions in Unaccounted-for Gas (UFG). The Division emphasized that the decisions of the SSGC Board are made collectively and are based on a consensus.
The statement also noted the reduction of UFG in Sindh province from 15% to 7%, crediting the effective management strategies of the SSGC Board, particularly the Chairperson. The Board’s commitment to policy formulation and strategic decision-making, coupled with the delegation of implementation to the management team, was highlighted as a key factor in the company’s progress.
Furthermore, the Petroleum Division acknowledged the ongoing efforts to institutionalize performance assessment and accountability at SSGC. The implementation of the New Employment Handbook, developed under the Board’s oversight, was cited as evidence of the Board’s dedication to HR and institutional reforms.
The Division reaffirmed its support for Dr. Shamshad Akhter, nominating her for another tenure as Chairperson of the Board. The statement urged the media to consider the substantial achievements under Dr. Akhter’s leadership and the collective efforts contributing to Pakistan’s energy sector growth when reporting on SSGC.
