Pakistani IT Minister Dr. Umar Saif Engages with Professionals in Switzerland, Discusses Tech and Public Health

Islamabad, Dr. Umar Saif, Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, engaged with Pakistani professionals in Switzerland, focusing on leveraging the diaspora’s expertise for national development. His visit included discussions at the Salesforce pavilion in Davos and participation in a session on disease surveillance.

According to Press Information Department, during his meeting with Pakistani professionals, Dr. Saif underscored the importance of establishing a systematic framework to utilize the global Pakistani diaspora’s vast experience. This initiative aims to benefit Pakistan’s development, particularly in the fields of technology and innovation.

At the Salesforce pavilion in Davos, Dr. Saif explored opportunities for Pakistan to become a hub of Salesforce expertise. The discussion is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a key player in the global technology sector. Additionally, Dr. Saif met with the Chairman of VEON, Terzioglu, and Aamir Ibrahim, the CEO of Jazz, to discuss further collaborations and advancements in telecommunications and technology.

In a significant move towards enhancing public health initiatives, Dr. Saif addressed the CEPI-Global Fund-IQVIA Session on Disease Surveillance in Davos. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in using technology for disease surveillance, citing examples of dengue, Covid, and TB management. The session was attended by several global leaders in public health, including Dr. Jean Kaseya, DG of Africa CDC, Richard Hatchett, CEO of CEPI, and Peter Sands, CEO of The Global Fund.

Dr. Saif’s visit also included a stop at the Crypto Pavilion, reflecting Pakistan’s interest in exploring emerging technologies and digital finance solutions.These series of meetings and discussions emphasize Pakistan’s commitment to integrating technology into various sectors and its readiness to collaborate internationally to achieve these goals.
