New York: Pakistan has called for a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of conflict to protect children from the devastating effects of war and foreign occupation. At the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, highlighted the urgent need for action.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Jadoon expressed deep concern over the alarming situation of children living under foreign occupation. He reported that over twelve thousand grave violations against children were recorded in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within a single year. Jadoon emphasized the severe psychological and physical harm suffered by children in these conflict zones and urged for closer monitoring and objective reporting to the Security Council to hold perpetrators accountable.
Jadoon stressed that addressing the plight of children in conflict and foreign occupation requires tackling the root causes. He advocated for preventive diplomacy, conflict resolution, and peaceful dispute settlement in line with the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions. Additionally, he called for sustained investment in rehabilitation, reintegration, and psycho-social support programs to restore dignity, rebuild futures, and prevent cycles of re-recruitment for affected children.
