Pakistan Unveils First AI-Enabled Parliamentary System

Islamabad: The National Assembly of Pakistan has launched an artificial intelligence-enabled parliamentary system and a digitally transformed Speaker’s Office, marking a significant shift towards modernized legislative processes. This initiative, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and aligned with the vision of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, aims to enhance efficiency and transparency within Pakistan’s legislative framework.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the soft launch event took place at the Parliament House in Islamabad, highlighting the commitment to a paperless Parliament where all Members have been provided with iPads to manage the daily influx of documents. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the importance of digitalization for institutional efficiency and transparency, acknowledging the support of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the National Information Technology Board (NITB). He also praised MNA Syeda Amnah Batool for her dedication to the initiative.

The AI-Enabled Parliamentary System, developed with the NITB, aims to provide a secure and technology-enabled environment, ensuring data sovereignty and operational independence. This system facilitates improved access to parliamentary information and streamlines legislative processes, supporting more informed decision-making.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 12, this initiative also supports the Government of Pakistan’s austerity measures through reduced reliance on paper-based processes. The event was attended by key government officials, parliamentarians, and representatives from civil society and the media.
