Quetta: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the deployment of the Frontier Corps in Balochistan’s Rakhshan Division to form a security corridor aimed at protecting the region’s mineral resources. The announcement came during a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for local and international companies operating in the mineral sector.
According to Radio Pakistan, the security corridor will feature additional Frontier Corps wings, security check posts on highways, surveillance grids, and border posts. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of maintaining security in Balochistan to bolster confidence in the mineral industry. He also expressed gratitude to Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the armed forces for their counter-terrorism efforts across the province and the country.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister commended Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and his team for their public welfare initiatives and efforts to ensure transparency and merit in district administration appointments. He highlighted the need for modern training and technological advancements for law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism effectively.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to empowering Balochistan’s youth through various initiatives, including expanded educational opportunities, technical and vocational training, employment generation, and digital skills training. Infrastructure, education, health, and communication projects are also being prioritized to provide better facilities and equal opportunities for the youth’s development.
The meeting provided updates on Balochistan’s security situation, counter-terrorism progress, governance reforms, and development projects. The committee was informed of the successful implementation of youth welfare and skills development programs, a reduction in polio cases, and operational health projects, such as a cancer institute and trauma center. Additionally, over fifteen thousand households have benefited from a solar energy project, resulting in significant savings.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and several federal ministers and advisors.
