ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is aiming to enhance its cooperation with Portugal across various sectors, including trade, investment, and education, as Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized the nation’s commitment to fostering these bilateral ties. During a meeting with Paulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez, the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Gilani underscored the significance of the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
According to Radio Pakistan, both representatives discussed a range of topics, including parliamentary cooperation and people-to-people contacts, with a focus on trade and investment. Gilani extended an invitation to Portuguese companies and investors to explore opportunities within Pakistan’s developing economic landscape, suggesting potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Gilani also highlighted the importance of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference as a platform to promote regional peace, security, and development. He acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistani community in Portugal, which consists of approximately 50,000 individuals, and expressed optimism for the swift finalization of the Agreement on Labour Mobility Partnership to facilitate enhanced cooperation.
Additionally, Gilani appreciated Portugal’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status and expressed hope that high-level interactions and regular consultations would further solidify the bilateral relationship. Ambassador Dominguez reiterated Portugal’s interest in bolstering economic and trade relations with Pakistan, signaling a shared commitment to these goals.
