Pakistan Seeks Enhanced Economic Ties with Turkmenistan


Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic engagement, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need to bolster economic cooperation and strengthen business-to-business relationships between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. These discussions took place during a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, who visited Islamabad accompanied by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov.



According to Press Information Department, President Zardari advocated for enhanced linkages between the stock exchanges of the two countries as a means to boost economic ties. During the meeting, he expressed Pakistan’s dedication to the swift completion of the TAPI Gas pipeline project, highlighting its potential to significantly benefit the economic landscape of both nations.



The talks also touched on the shared values, religion, and culture that underpin the bilateral relationship. President Zardari called for collaborative efforts to foster regional stability and prosperity, reflecting a mutual commitment to the well-being of both Pakistani and Turkmen populations.



Additionally, Rashid Meredov conveyed special greetings from Turkmenistan’s leadership, acknowledging President Zardari’s recent participation in the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Magtymguli Faragi in Ashgabat, which was seen as a gesture of deep respect towards the Turkmen people.



The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment of both nations to deepen economic and diplomatic ties, with further discussions anticipated to continue building on the foundations laid out during this high-level exchange.
