Pakistan Secures Second LNG Cargo from Azerbaijan’s SOCAR

Islamabad, The Ministry of Energy and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) have successfully procured a second LNG cargo from the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), marking a significant step in Pakistan’s energy procurement strategy. The cargo, scheduled for delivery next month, follows a landmark Framework Agreement signed with Azerbaijan in July last year, which aimed to facilitate LNG procurement on flexible terms.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this development underscores the strengthening of energy ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. The agreement, signed in July, has been pivotal in ensuring a steady supply of LNG to Pakistan, a country that has faced considerable challenges in meeting its energy demands.

The procurement of this second cargo is expected to aid in mitigating Pakistan’s energy shortages and stabilizing its energy market. The agreement with SOCAR, which allows for the flexible procurement of LNG, is seen as a strategic move to diversify Pakistan’s energy sources and reduce reliance on traditional suppliers.

This successful procurement is not only significant for Pakistan’s energy sector but also marks an important milestone in the country’s international energy relations, particularly with Azerbaijan. It reflects the growing collaboration between the two countries in the field of energy and their mutual commitment to ensuring energy security.
