Islamabad: Pakistan has dismissed the remarks made by the Indian Foreign Minister concerning the situation of minorities, arguing that India is not in a position to advocate for minority rights due to its own history of rights violations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, in a statement from Islamabad, refuted the claims made by the Indian Foreign Minister in the Lok Sabha about the status of minorities in Pakistan. Khan asserted that Pakistani state institutions are committed to safeguarding minority rights, contrasting them with the treatment of minorities in India.
The statement highlighted that incidents against minorities in India often occur with implicit approval from those in power. It pointed to the systematic encouragement of hatred and violence against minorities in India, emphasizing the extensive documentation of such practices.
Further, the statement criticized India’s track record, mentioning severe and systemic violations of minority rights, especially against Muslims. It referred to the Citizenship Amendment Act as discriminatory, and cited events such as the 2002 Gujarat massacre, the 2020 Delhi riots, the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, and attacks on religious sites.
