Islamabad, Caretaker Minister for Foreign Affairs Jalil Abbas Jilani declared Pakistan’s intention to join international efforts to address climate change at a pre-COP28 event in Islamabad today.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, The minister emphasized the necessity of establishing a global framework for climate adaptation with clear objectives and benchmarks at the event, which sets the stage for the upcoming COP28 conference in Dubai. Jilani expressed hope for a successful COP28 that would see developed countries lead in assuming responsibilities, operationalize a fund for damage and loss, and achieve global resilience through adaptation measures. In conjunction, Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi highlighted the importance of using drama, music, and programming to raise climate change awareness. A dedicated climate change desk at Pakistan Television was announced for extensive coverage and information dissemination on the subject. Solangi urged a visionary approach from all society segments to combat the challenge, noting that while Pakistan’s contribution to climate change is minimal, it remains one of the most affected countries by its impacts.
