Pakistan Delivers Demarche to Afghan Taliban Over Bannu Terror Attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan summoned the Afghan Chargé d’Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a demarche regarding the recent vehicle-borne IED attack in Bannu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attack, which occurred on May 9, 2026, at the Fateh Khel Police Post, resulted in the deaths of 15 police constables and injuries to four others, including a civilian.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the investigation points to the involvement of terrorists based in Afghanistan in orchestrating the attack. The Ministry expressed grave concerns over the continued use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan and emphasized that the country reserves the right to respond decisively.

The Ministry also highlighted reports from the UN Monitoring Team and other international organizations documenting the presence of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. Pakistan has urged the Afghan Taliban to take action against groups like Fitna-al-Khawarij, Fitna-al-Hindustan, and ISKP/Daesh, but meaningful action has yet to be taken.

Despite multiple rounds of talks mediated by friendly nations, the Afghan Taliban have not committed to curbing these terrorist activities. Pakistan has warned the Afghan regime that it will not compromise on national security or the safety of its citizens if these threats persist.
